Pedigree: Mayson (GB) ex Mail Express (IRE)
It was always our plan to get two yearlings with Richard this year. We secured our first at the Doncaster Goffs sale but wanted to wait for the right horse to come available for the second. When Richard rang us after the sales at Tattersalls saying he had bought a lovely colt by Mayson, we knew we were on to something. The colt was sold by Grangemore Stud at Tattersalls Book 2, for a fantastic price considering the average hammer price of a horse at Tatts book 2 was over £76,000. We couldn't fault the horse when we went to see him and after Richard told us he was interested in owning some of the horse we couldn't say no.
Mayson has only been at stud for a couple of years but is making a name for himself for producing really fast 2-year-olds. From his first few crops, he has produced horses such as True Mayson, Dance Diva, Raydiance and Holmeswood. As a racehorse, Mayson was trained by Richard Fahey and developed into a really top-class sprinter. He was an out and out sprinter that was equally as effective at 5 furlongs as he was at 6. His greatest achievement came in the Group 1 Darley July Cup, where he beat a top-class field that included Society Rock and Sepoy.
Mail Express was a very lightly raced filly only racing 3 times. She managed to win her 3rd and final start over 6f, an impressive feat for a horse by Cape Cross. As a mare Mail Express has produced 6 foals of racing age 4 of which have been winners. Mundana was her best progeny reaching a rating of 95 over her 4 starts for Luca Cumani.
This colt, from the family of Declaration Of War, has a pedigree packed with black type winners. Richard is a massive advocate of Mayson as a stallion and we hope our colt is the latest speedy 2 years old for this sire.
