Pedigree: Excelebration (IRE) ex Snow Dust (GB)
Sweet Celebration could turn out to be one of our best value buys from the sales. She is a stunning daughter of Excelebration out of a First Defence (USA) mare. Sweet Celebration was purchased at the Tattersalls October sales from Book 3, she impressed us with her fantastic conformation and attitude throughout the day at the sales.
Her sire, Excelebartion was originally also trained by Marco Botti before moving into the care of Aiden O'Brien. He did most of his winning between 7f-1m but was unfortunate enough to be born in the generation that included Frankel. Excelebration finished second to Frankel on three occasions but still managed to win three Group 1 races here and in France. He has been at stud since 2014 and with his first crop produced last years St James' Palace winner Barney Roy. The black type performers haven't finished there however and in his second crop, he produced Hey Jonsey and Speak In Colour (also trained by Marco Botti). He was a very classy horse who would have undoubtedly won more races had he have been born at a different time but this appears to have made him a very good value sire.
Sweet Celebration was the second foal of Snow Dust's, the first of which has made the track on several occasions, which is always a positive. Snow Dust herself was an unraced mare, half-sister to multiple group race winner Starformer. Starformer won multiple Group races between 1m2f and 1m4f, in the US including the Group 2 New York Stakes at Belmont Park.
Sweet Celebrations pedigree would suggest she wouldn't be the sharpest 2yr old and would probably want further than the 5f and 6f races on offer to 2yr olds early in the season. Having said that her pedigree is stacked with black type performers and she is a very exciting prospect. She was named due to her sweet temperament she displays every time we pay her a visit and as a result, we think she would be a fantastic horse for anyone new into racehorse ownership to get involved with.
